Boeing has announced that three KC-767J tankers have achieved initial operational capability and have been placed into an active air wing in the Japan Air Self-Defense.

The three tankers have completed a year-long technical evaluation at the Komaki Air Base, Japan.

A fourth is due to be delivered by Boeing in the first quarter of 2010.

The company is also building two KC-767 tankers for the Italian Air Force.
