The People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) has installed a black box in the missile weapon system of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) missile brigade.

The black box, which is a real-time recording system for weapon system working status, will reduce combat preparation time of the brigade.

At one end, the black box is attached to the weapon system, while at the other end it is connected to the brigade command post terminal display system to provide real-time recording and send back data information of the missile weapon system.

MAC missile brigade commander Ding said through the ‘black box’ data, it was easy to know if the troops had got ready for warfare in the shortest possible time, whether the weapons are running at optimal performance levels, and if the officers and men can accurately locate targets in the air and claim victory through skilled manipulation of weapons.

The black box features powerful functions for recording, storing, playing back as well as having a real-time display. It has been jointly developed by the MAC missile brigade and a research institute, according to PLA Daily.
