Meggitt has been selected by Boeing to deliver cargo and cabin smoke detection systems for use on US Air Force KC-46 refuelling tanker aircraft.

The system to be delivered under the contract will include a micro-particle discrimination feature, advanced optical measurement features and digital signal processing to eliminate false alarms.

Model 604 will not react to harmless dust concentrations and will discriminate between smoke and non-smoke sources of airborne particles such as humidity, dust and airborne particulate contamination based on their optical signature.

Boeing is under contract to deliver 18 KC-46 refuelling aircraft by 2017 under the KC-135 replacement programme, which will continue until 2028.
