Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has been awarded a contract to provide 30 NORMARC 7000 instrument landing systems (ILS) and 31 NORMARC Doppler VHF omni-directional range systems (DVOR) for Indian air bases.

The navigation equipment contract, awarded by the Tata Power Company, is part of the first phase of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) modernisation of air field infrastructure (MAFI) project.

The contract also includes an option for a second phase of the programme for modernising a further 30 air fields operated by the Indian armed forces.

The MAFI project will ensure that the IAF’s air fields are capable of operating all types of aircraft including modern jet fighters and military transport aircraft currently being acquired.

The project will provide the airfields with modern air traffic management, navigation and landing systems, and meteorological and communications facilities.

Deliveries will be completed in 42 months.
