The Boeing C-130 avionics modernisation programme (AMP) is all set to enter the US Air Force initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E) programme in early 2012.

Five aircraft will take part in the programme to be declared a proven weapon system that offers more operational situational awareness for aircrews and increased flight safety during various missions.

The first two low-rate initial production C-130 AMP aircraft will be completed by late 2011 and early 2012, while the other three are currently undergoing scheduled programmed depot maintenance.

The evaluation will be carried out at the US Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, US, which is also the centre for C-130 AMP flight crew training.
