The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a contract extension to BAE Systems to support and maintain its Hawk Tmk1 jet trainer aircraft fleet.

The £23.8m contract extension is a continuation of the original four-year contract awarded to BAE in 2007.

Under the Hawk ontegrated operational support (Hawk IOS) contract, the company will ensure availability of the training aircraft to carry out agreed levels of training sorties.

The company will also continue to support flight line operations and provide fleet and supply chain management, forward and depth maintenance and technical support.

The Hawk has lower acquisition, operating and support costs than other trainers and produces less noise and emissions.

The trainer aircraft is currently being used across 25 countries worldwide to train pilots.
