Cassidian has been awarded a contract by the German Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement to modernise the air defence training system, Stinger, to increase protection of German Armed Forces.

Under the contract, the company will deliver a high-performance picture and scenario generator for use in the trainers located at the Fassberg und Todendorf training centres in Germany.

The Stinger dome trainer is the only indoor system that enables interactive training of air defence soldiers in a virtual 360° environment.

The digital multichannel video projection system will provide new options for scenario and landscape simulation as well as weather conditions and moving elements such as smoke, vehicles and enemy forces.

The modernised system is expected to be operational by the end of 2011.
