The Indian Air Force (IAF) will launch its own 3G wireless service in June this year, which will enable commander and air warriors to remain connected 24/7.
The latest value-added service on a wideband CDMA-based 3G portable network will be integrated into the air force network (AFNET) communication system.

“The new 3G service will be a secure communication network enabling voice, data, video streaming and file sharing, enhancing real-time operational efficiency,” an IAF release stated.
The new captive network, with transportable mobile base stations, will help the connectivity of each IAF officer and airmen up to the rank of sergeant, and will be provided with a high-end handset to begin with.
The network will be operational in the Delhi area within six months in the first phase, with the network being functional for all remaining air force establishments across the country by 2013, according to IANS.
