Term: Advanced Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing


Definition:

A joint program between Advanced Research and Projects Agency (ARPA), NASA and Lockheed Corporation. An Advanced Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (ASTOVL) model was tested at the NASA Lewis Research Center. The scaled model was tested over a range of headwind velocities from 25kn to 120kn. This test was a key part of a Department of Defense program investigation enabling technologies for future high-performance ASTOVL aircraft.
