2010 Quadrennial Defense Review

21 May 2010

The US's 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) significantly contributes to the development of new policies, capabilities and initiatives in an effort to make the defence force more capable of fighting the irregular conflicts.

The review focused on practical areas including future direction on procurement and deployment for either strategic or theatre missile defences.

Central to this are the issues involved in air force procurement with the joint strike fighter F-35 programme making slow progress and the new aerial refuelling tanker contract causing major divisions between potential contractors and the Pentagon.

The QDR aims to direct the country's defence programmes and the associated resources more efficiently to detail a workable national defence strategy and help the military to successfully execute the full range of missions within that strategy.
