National Strategy of Defence: Peace and Security for Brazil

10 March 2010

Brazil's defence white paper sets out to reorganise its armed forces to meet the needs of the modern world. All areas are considered in the paper to help the country achieve its goals while maintaining an effective armed service.

High on the agenda is controlling and monitoring the country's air space, territorial waters and land from attack, with a major focus on improving understanding between the armed services and the defence department.

The paper suggests that the Brazil Government unify the operations of the three defence branches by combining the Ministry of Defence Staff into a joint staff. It systematically formulates the implementation steps to be made as part of progress towards the goal and tabulates the necessary tasks to be carried out by the concerned ministry along with their scheduled completion dates.
