The military doctrine of the Russian Federation comes under scrutiny in this 2010 white paper from Nato's research review.

As a nuclear power, but still not a member of NATA, Russia understandably comes under heavy scrutiny on the world stage. It still, however, lists Nato as a military danger, due to countries ever closer to the Russian border becoming member states.

It is important for Russia to remain a significant player on the world stage, which it has attempted to do since the fall of communism. Is this still a realistic goal in a world dominated by the US and China?
