China Defence Review 2009

09 April 2010

China has one of the most formidable military forces in the world. Its first Quadrennial Defence Review (QDR), released in 2009, sets out its defence strategy direction.

The focus of this white paper is on the security tensions China faces in the Taiwan Strait and the mobilisation of its reserve forces. Its asymmetrical warfare and joint ground defence capabilities are also assessed, alongside modern threats the country faces.

China is increasingly playing a very different role on the world stage and this study looks at how the Chinese military must adjust to play its part.
