07 April 2010The New Zealand Defence Forces' (NZDF) long-term development plan (LTDP) sets out the major capital acquisition projects, which will enable the forces to implement its defence policy objectives.
The capability development process for the NZDF includes LTDP projects approved by the Government of New Zealand and in the acquisition phase, as well as those approved in principle and many other critical and essential projects.
Modern warfare capabilities delivered to the New Zealand Army include a medium-range anti-armour weapon, a very low-level air defence cueing system, light operational vehicles and improvised explosive device disposal.
The C-130 Life Extension project, procurement of new training and light utility helicopters and the purchase of night-vision equipment for the NZDF are among the projects currently in the acquisition phase.
The networking of military capabilities has been given strategical importance to build a modern defence force. In addition, the defence ministry is intending to initiate projects that will deal with network architecture, fixed networks and mobile access to range of broadband communications systems.
