Defending Australia in the Asia Pacific Century: Force 2030

24 March 2010

Looking to the future, the Australian Government looks at what role it will hold and how best to strengthen the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The focus of this white paper is on the Pacific and the governments policy to engage in conflicts against hostile forces to defend its shores. It also looks into the way Australia will feature in intra-state conflicts and its role in the international community in 2030.

Particular attention is paid to the country's naval situation, but the paper also looks into the role the air force will play in any future military conflicts.

In a modern world with modern challenges, the role of the military is becoming more complex. With this report, Australia sets out its views for how to achieve its goals in the next two decades.
