Saab - Air, Naval and Ground Radar Sensor Systems

Saab is a leading provider of sensor systems, encompassing advanced airborne, ground-based and naval radar, as well as an extensive range of services.

AIR, GROUND AND NAVY RADAR SENSORS

Saab has the power and technology to help you achieve information superiority at all times. If you are the first to know, you can be the first to act, and our robust, interoperable, cost-efficient and future-proof air, ground and navy radar sensor systems give you that capacity.

MICROWAVE AND ANTENNA RADAR TECHNOLOGY

With more than 50 years of experience in radar development, we are a world-leading competence centre for microwave and antenna technology. Over the years more than 3,000 sensors have been delivered worldwide, and today our products are operational in more than 30 countries.

ERIEYE – AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING AND CONTROL SYSTEM

ERIEYE is the first high-performance, long-range Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system based on an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, including SSR / IFF. The system also comprises an on-board command and control system.

The AEW&C system can be integrated with other systems, such as electronic support measures, voice communications, other sensors, data links and self-protection systems. Capable of installation in a variety of commercial commuter aircraft, this system combines a high-performance capability with high cost-efficiency.

This AEW&C system detects and tracks air and sea targets of up to 450km over land or water. It is a proven system for military and civilian purposes, both inside and outside NATO.

The ERIEYE AEW&C system offers many advantages, including:

  • High-performance surveillance for air and sea targets using AESA technology
  • High availability and high readiness by using commuter-type aircraft and modern technology
  • Low operational-cost

NORA – ACTIVE ELECTRONICALLY SCANNED ARRAY

Saab's future airborne radar, Not Only a Radar (NORA), is a complete electronic warfare system including jamming and data communication. The new radar will use an active electronically scanned array, built up with approximately 1,000 individual transmit / receive modules.

The antenna, mounted on a single-axis platform, will give well over 200° coverage in azimuth. NORA will offer superior performance by virtue of a number of core capabilities at Saab – beam agility, beam widening, multi-channel processing, target-specific waveforms and low radar cross-section.

MODULAR AIRBORNE COMPUTER SYSTEM

Developed for the Gripen fourth-generation multi-role fighter, the Saab Modular Airborne Computer System (MACS), is a standardised, highly modular multiprocessor real-time computer concept designed for severe airborne environments with their real-time applications. The MACS meets all the requirements for demanding airborne situations, and provides:

  • High real-time performance
  • Modular functionality and performance
  • Low weight, volume and power consumption
  • High reliability

PS-05/A – THE RADAR SENSOR FOR INFORMATION SUPERIORITY

True multimode capability plus an optimised man-machine interface – the features of Saab's PS-05/A radar add up to the information superiority so appreciated by pilots of the world's first operational fourth-generation fighter. The Swedish Gripen carries one of the most advanced multimode fighter radars in production today.

The PS-05/A information-superiority radar sensor offers the following features:

  • High resolution air-to-air and air-to-ground modes
  • Outstanding tracking performance
  • Comprehensive ECCM
  • High reliability
  • Full support for AMRAAM missiles
  • Modular construction
