AIRCRAFT BALLISTIC PROTECTION

TenCate Advanced Armour offers customised lightweight solutions for the protection of both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Our protection solutions are tailored to meet user requirements for both permanent integration in the structure of a new aircraft and for additional protection of an existing aircraft.

Our protection solutions are designed to enhance both crew and aircraft survivability.

The used technology has a wide variety of options to meet customer requirements for both permanent mounting as well as protection kits that quickly can be added and removed by the user if required.

LIGHTWEIGHT AIRCRAFT ARMOUR

For the protection of an aircraft every kilogram of weight matters. Extra weight reduces the payload and the range of operation. Therefore, TenCate Advanced Armour protection solutions for aircraft use the most lightweight materials available such as high performance polyethylene (Dyneema) and silicon carbide.

Our projects include protection of the EH101 and Super Lynx helicopters from AgustaWestland.

DYNEEMA ARMOUR PANELS

In order to manufacture high quality panels using Dyneema high performance fibres, strict process control of parameters such as temperature and pressure is needed. All parameters are continuously measured and documented in our database to secure full traceability of all products and processes.

Before pressing a panel all fibre materials are plied to the desired thickness by automated or semi-automated cutting tables. This secures the correct number of layers, including a minimum of waste and maximum efficiency.

RUBBERISED ARAMID LINER

TenCate Advanced Armour rubberised aramid liner is a unique product on the market. We have continuously developed this for many years and have an extensive knowledge from the manufacturing of technical rubber. Our manufacturing techniques for these liners are based on the ability to work with rubber solvents and apply these in a controlled manner to various fabrics. This process allows us to seal and bond the aramid fibres with only minor weight increase in the final product.

CERAMIC COMPOSITE ARMOUR

The manufacture of composite armour using ceramics also relies on know-how and techniques from the manufacturing of technical rubber products. Rubber, fibre materials and ceramics are moulded to panels according to customer-specified shapes.

TenCate Advanced Armours manufacturing capabilities for this process consists of machines for cutting of ceramics, cutting and plying of sheeted rubber, cutting and plying of fibre materials and bonding by rubber vulcanization.
