AST Security Equipment (AST) To Supply 14 Ballistic Armouring Kits for German UH-1D Helicopters

AST, which was recently restructured as a system house for ballistic protection solutions, has signed a fast-track supply contract with BWB for 14 sets of a ballistic protection kit for the German UH-1D. The kit uses the latest lightweight hard armour hybrids and soft armour fabrics, and thus achieves a protection level never realised before on such a small aircraft. It also includes the new elastic attachment fixtures patented by AST in 2006, which decouple the hard armour plates from the structural dynamics of the airframe and thus improve system reliability.
AST is currently on the way to upgrading its QMS certification to aerospace and marine level (ISO 9100-2003 / AQUAP 2000); Lloyds Register, from the German Lloyd Certification (GLC) is the certifying agency.
The modular ballistic protection solutions offered by AST allow the definition of a customised optimum design, considering weight, cost and protection level.
AST offers the full spectrum of ballistic protection systems, from soft aramide mats and transparent polycarbonate windows, to hard ballistic protection plates made of an aramide / HPPE hybrid and wood, brass plated steel, ceramics and sapphire.
