BCF Designs Ltd wins Business Innovation Award

Aerospace test equipment specialists BCF Designs Ltd have won The Citizen & Gloucestershire Echo Business Innovation Award for its Fuel System Test Set (FSTS).
BCF Designs’ FSTS was designed entirely in-house. It is the only product of its kind in the world because it is software-driven and multiplatform (i.e. one tester can be used on any type of aircraft). This has resulted in significant time and cost savings for customers.
The product has made a significant contribution to BCF Designs, accounting for 67% of turnover last year.
Managing Director Gareth John said: “We are thrilled to win this award. BCF Designs recognises that innovation is crucial to its business success. The company charter is to: ‘Look at emerging technologies, predominantly in the military aerospace market, and work with OEMs and end users to ascertain if a testability solution is required. Alternatively to analyse enhancements to existing test equipment which will move users into the 21st century.’”
BCF Designs recently completed the roll-out of the FSTS on to all UK military aircraft and is now developing a new version of the tester for supply to the US Department of Defense Navy.
The company is also developing two new versions of the tester – one for the commercial aviation market and one which will test ultrasonic fuel systems.
About the Fuel System Test Set (FSTS)
The FSTS tests and isolates faults in fuel systems, liquid oxygen systems and low level warning devices on aircraft. It takes measurements and calculates pass/fail limits automatically and so eliminates operator error. It reduces test time by around 50% compared with manually-driven testers and provides diagnostic, preventative and trend data for download and analysis.
