Protecting civilian aircraft against deadly MANPADS missiles is a critical problem facing aviation authorities and operators worldwide. AIRCRAFT SELF-PROTECTION EQUIPMENT
Aircraft self-protection equipment using lamps, lasers, conventional pyrotechnic decoys, special material decoys and continuous dispenser systems is all obtainable from major manufacturers. Many of these systems are also proposed for airborne stand-off protection around airports, using loitering UAVs.
GROUND-BASED AREA DEFENCE
Another concept currently under evaluation is ground-based area defence around airfields, using high-power microwave or laser beams fired from the ground at MANPADS in flight.
