Esterline Defense Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Infra-Red (IR) decoy flares and radar countermeasure chaff, designed to protect aircraft from heat seeking and radar-guided missiles.

FLARE FACILITIES

Esterline Defense Technologies' flare operations in East Camden, Arkansas and Milan, Tennessee, incorporate both research and development, and test and production facilities. Esterline Defense Technologies produces a broad range of flares to suit a variety of applications for the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force and allied governments. EDG's flares can be tailored to meet the needs of unique operational environments.

CONVENTIONAL AND ADVANCED FLARES

Wallop Defence Systems, also part of Esterline Defense Technologies, is a leading producer of a variety of conventional and advanced flares.

CONVENTIONAL MAGNESIUM-BASED FLARES

Conventional flare products include the 1in x 1in x 8in M206; the 1in x 2in x 8in MJU-7A/B; the 2in x 2.5in x 8in MJU-10/B and the 36mm variants MJU-32/B and MJU-38/B. Armtec® commercial part numbers are also available to meet specific customer requirements.

Esterline Defense Technologies offers flares that are compatible with M130, AN/ALE 39, AN/ALE 40, AN/ALE 45 and AN/ALE 47 series dispensing systems and their equivalents.

Our products are combat proven and employed on a wide variety of aircraft, including B1-Bs, F-16s, F-15s, F-18s, A-10s, C-130s, C-17s, C-5s and helicopters.

ADVANCED FLARES

In addition to conventional magnesium flares, Esterline Defense Technologies offers advanced flares featuring new chemistry and design techniques. These advanced flares are effective against a wide variety of Gen 3 and Gen 4 threat seekers. Advanced flares are available for and compatible with the dispensing systems mentioned above.

SPECTRALLY TAILORED FLARES

Esterline Defense Technologies' spectrally tailored flares have been tested on fast jets, helicopters and transports and found to be effective against advanced missile seekers. Spectrally tailored flares are available in 1in x 1in x 8in, 1in x 2in x 8in and 36mm forms.

PROPELLED OR KINEMATIC FLARES

Esterline Defense Technologies is also the world leader in the design and manufacture of propelled or kinematic flares.

RADAR COUNTERMEASURE CHAFF

Esterline Defense Technologies is the only qualified producer of the radar countermeasure chaff in the United States. Our chaff facility at Lillington, North Carolina, is the only fully integrated production operation worldwide. It encompasses fiberizing and metalizing of raw glass, cutting and loading dipoles to the desired frequency and packing of the finished product.

CUSTOMIZED CHAFF COUNTERMEASURES

Esterline Defense Technologies produces almost one million pounds of chaff annually and integrates over two million chaff cartridges. Customized products are available to meet unique customer requirements.

Products include RR-170A/AL, RR-188/AL, RR-129A/AL, RR-144A/AL, RR-180/AL and RR-196/AL dual chaff cartridges and RR-179/AL bundle chaff. Esterline Defense Technologies also offers a wide range of chaff payloads for legacy systems such as the RR-ZZZ.
