Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has successfully completed Phase I of a critical deployment study contract for the US Air Force’s (USAF) spacecraft enterprise ground services (EGS).

The Phase I completion is a step towards moving the command and control system-consolidated (CCS-C) and the military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) satellite C2 system, into one platform EGS.

The EGS is a new approach to cost-effective satellite ground infrastructure and stems from the USAF’s space enterprise vision (SEV), which seeks sustainable, resilient space architecture to better tackle threats and protect space-based assets.

It will offer improved space situational awareness (SSA) and can be integrated with the USAF’s enterprise space battle management command and control system (BMC2), which is currently under development.

Kratos SATCOM Products and Federal Solutions senior vice-president John Monahan said: “One of the biggest drivers behind the development of EGS is an increasingly ominous space threat environment and the speed with which those threats occur.

“Kratos is making key investments towards the success of EGS.”

“With the success of our recent Phase I prototype demo, the government has authorised us to begin working on Phase II.
