The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a possible $1.1bn foreign military sale (FMS) to support Qatar’s F-15QA Strike Eagle multi-role fighter aircraft.

Under the sale, Qatar seeks to receive design and construction services, new parking/loading ramps, hot cargo pads, taxiways, hangars, back shops and alert facilities in support of the fighter aircraft programme.

The Government of Qatar has also requested weapons storage areas, hardened shelters, squadron operations, maintenance and training facilities, as well as information technology support and cyber facilities. It has also ordered force protection support and squadron operations facilities.

The sale covers the delivery of other F-15QA-related support structures, construction/facilities/design services, cybersecurity services, mission-critical computer resources, and support services.

The procurement would help Qatar to better operate and sustain its F-15QA aircraft fleet.

The prime contractor for construction, cybersecurity, and force protection infrastructure will be selected through competition.

In November 2016, Qatar requested to purchase 72 F-15QA multi-role fighter aircraft and an associated weapons package from the US for $21.1bn.

The purchase was to improve Qatar’s capability to meet current and future enemy air-to-air and air-to-ground threats.

In June, the US agreed to sell 36 Boeing F-15QA fighters to Qatar for $12bn.
